It's made of gum paste. I made the gum paste myself, as it's a lot cheaper than buying from outside those ready made. But if you are busy, no harm getting the ready made ones, they are really good!! Yes, I made the whole thing by hands. very simple job anyway! :) show me yours ok??
Gum last gives a better body/texture to mold and shape. Though it may not be as tasty as fondant.

Gum past is form of sugar paste that has firmer texture kneading out shapes and it dries up faster and hard compare to fondant. I am sure you have books on fondant cakes, trey do give recipe for gum paste, some they call it modeling paste....
